College Crash Course
A virtual 2-day workshop designed for rising high school seniors who would like some help preparing for their college applications. This is NOT for students who are already working with Jensen or another college counselor. Students will leave this course with tools to complete their college applications and with a better understanding of how their applications will be evaluated.
Crash Course Includes
An interactive guidebook to help students complete their applications, including resources to organize essays and applications
A personal meeting with Jensen to discuss the student’s personal college list, application, and any recommendations
Guidance on the application process, building a college list essays, choosing majors, and more
Multiple guided activities to brainstorm essay topics
Opportunities to connect with other rising seniors and brainstorm together
A list of recommended resources to help with various points of the admissions process
Videos of presentations for review
Q&A sessions each day
Ability to add on essay editing services (not offered to general public)

Day 1: Admission Process Overview
Dive into each piece of the admissions process and learn what you may need to work on before application season picks up
Compare types of financial aid and understand how knowing your budget can help you build a college list - with or without scholarships
Discuss how to tour colleges to determine if they are a good fit or not for you
Understand the different major paths and which one(s) might be best for you
Learn how to build a college list that is balanced and individualized to your academic, social, and personal goals and needs
Spend time building an initial draft of your college list, or narrow down one you already have
Balance your list by assigning admissibility to each college
Determine if honors colleges are a good fit for you

Day 2: Essays & Applications
Learn what a college essay is, how it differs from high school, and what types of college essays you may need to write
Discuss fundamentals of a personal statement and review the possible prompts
Explore the common supplemental prompts and what colleges are really looking for
Participate in guided brainstorming activities so you can leave having a better idea what to write about - and how to brainstorm in the future
Organize your essays and minimize the amount of time spent on them
Begin filling out the Common Application, and learn what common mistakes to avoid
Determine which deadlines will be best for you for each college
Use resources provided to organize your application requirements and deadlines
Discuss what matters senior year for college applications

Guidelines
Registration must be canceled at least 14 days before the course start date for refund. Less than 14 days before the course, refunds are not available as there is limited space available.
Upon registration, parent(s) will be sent an invoice. Payment is accepted via Zelle or Venmo. A student’s spot is confirmed once payment is received. After payment is received, parent(s) and student will receive an email with confirmation details, Zoom link, and instructions to schedule the 1:1 meeting with Jensen.
Students must be present for the entire session. Access to recorded meetings will be given after the session has concluded and is available until December 31, 2024.
There will be light prep work for the workshop – for students to get the most out of the course they are expected to come prepared.
Students are expected to be engaged and present! There are limited spots available.
