1:1 Counseling
For current sophomores and juniors, 1:1 counseling offers guidance throughout the college application process. While each student has the same outline, Jensen gets to know the student individually and provides personalized recommendations.
My Process
While one-on-one counseling is personalized for each student, I follow the same 5-step outline with everyone. In order to move to the next phase of the process, a student is expected to complete each step of the outline - steps are not skipped for a student.
I do not have contracts with families to continue my services - a student may stop working with me at any time if they feel they no longer need my help. I bill at an hourly rate of $175.
-
An introductory meeting for the student and parent(s). We get to know each other and evaluate fit for moving forward in the process together. We also review the college process in depth and talk about what the student might need to focus on moving forward.
This meeting is offered at 50% off.
-
Using tested career development theories and assessments, we explore potential majors in this meeting. Even if a student already has an idea of what they want to do this meeting allows us to explore major and career options that will fit well for them. Every college has different options in terms of majors they offer (even if they go by the same name), so this is an important meeting to evaluate what a student specifically wants to focus on.
A follow up report is sent to the student and family after the meeting.
-
Students are asked a long list of questions about what they want in college. Their answers help form the initial draft of colleges to explore, which is included in follow up after the meeting.
This is an important meeting for students to reflect on what they are truly wanting in their college experience. Studies show that students who are engaged socially in college thrive academically and have a higher job placement and satisfaction rates.
-
In essay sessions, we talk about how to write the college essay(s), what to focus on, and complete brainstorming activities.
Typically, there are two essay sessions, depending on a student’s list. Every college has a different number of application essays.
Students typically ask for essay editing after the essay sessions.
-
Parent(s) are welcome to join the fall application meeting, in which we discuss all upcoming requirements for the student and how the parent(s) can help. This is an essential meeting to make sure everything is on track as deadlines approach.
